The airlines in India dates back to the First World War when the British first introduced the concept of cargo and mail travel through flights. With the advent of safe and quick aircrafts into the Indian civil aviation sector airline companies flourished very quickly.

Growth in Airline Industry

After the late 80’s, there has been an exponential growth in the number of airline users in India. With prices becoming more and more affordable air traffic is growing in India. The average Indian is now looking towards air travel as a viable option. In the earlier days air travel was popular only among the aristocrats and the bureaucrats but today with the increasing earning capacity of Indian businessmen and service class citizens air travel is becoming much more popular.

The airlines Industry in India although have grown substantially in the last few years, yet the number remains lower than in other countries with air traffic comparable to that in India. Given the large size of the country it is essential that a large number of airline service providers venture into the Indian civil aviation industry.
